A cat isn’t a cuddle toy—every fabCat knows that. It’s a creature that, like anyone, deserves their personal space. Cats are masters at defining their boundaries. However, one breed loves to break stereotypes, becoming the true social butterfly in a world of independent furballs. We’re talking, of course, about Ragdolls. The comparison to actual rag dolls isn’t coincidental: Ragdolls often resemble that relaxed, floppy toy with their laid-back attitude. Today, we’ll take a closer look at these charming furballs and see if the legends about cats who adore living alongside humans are true. Ready to join us on this journey, fabCats?
Ragdoll – the Fluffy Cuddle Bug
If you asked the internet for the top three traits of Ragdolls, you’d read that they are gentle, people-friendly, and always looking for companionship. It’s pretty accurate, although it’s important to remember that there are variations within every breed and not all Ragdolls are cut from the same cloth. Even within a single litter, you can find the cuddliest cats in the world and those who prefer a more typical feline distance. But overall, can we deny Ragdolls their friendly nature? Absolutely not! These big, fluffy cats are laid-back and willing to let their beloved human do a lot. Lounging on laps, sharing a pillow, being carried around: none of that bothers a Ragdoll. In fact, this is the kind of cat that will gently insist on closeness and affection without being pushy, always finding a way to get what they want. They’ll even charm the guests at your house, like our office cat Luna, who always greeted us with her tail held high, ready for petting whenever her owners were away. Now that’s a warm welcome!
What You Should Know About Ragdolls
Before you decide to share your home with one of these charming kitties, there are a few things to consider. Ragdolls aren’t just any cats that enjoy affection and human company. They’re fluffy, sometimes chatty, a little bit crazy, and always present balls of joy that will make sure you never forget you have a cat. Privacy? Forget about it! Your fluffy shadow will follow you everywhere: the bathroom, kitchen, closet, bedroom, sofa, desk, even into your suitcase… Even when they’re sleeping, they’ll always know where you are.
One of the most striking features of Ragdolls is their luscious, fluffy fur. Just looking at one, you can tell that petting that fur is pure pleasure. And it is! But be prepared for that fur to become part of your life—not just on the cat, but in your coffee, on your clothes, your shoes, and all over the sofa. Living with a long-haired cat is lovely but requires regular brushing and cleaning. Luckily, Ragdolls’ thick coat is relatively easy to maintain, so as long as your kitty is cool with the brush, taking care of it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
Do Ragdolls Have a Bit of Attitude?
Like all cats, they sure do! But among all the breeds, Ragdolls are some of the most balanced. They’re trusting, affectionate, and not prone to extremes, though exceptions do exist. Ragdolls love to play and get wild sometimes, but they’re not likely to tear your house apart. They’re affectionate cuddle bugs who follow their humans like a shadow, but when they need to, they can entertain themselves quite happily as long as you’re nearby. They also do well with other cats, provided their playmate is also up for some fun. They’re like playful kittens who never quite grow up, even though they might outgrow their feline friends in size rather quickly.
What Does a Ragdoll Need at Home?
Ragdolls are relatively large cats, so it’s a good idea to adapt their accessories and furniture to meet their specific needs. Where to start? Scratching posts, of course! All the models available at myKotty are big enough for a Ragdoll, but if you really want to spoil your kitty with the scratching post equivalent of a Ferrari, go for the LUI XL or VIGO XL—ideal for scratching, sleeping, and playing. When choosing vertical scratching posts (and yes, you’ll need those too), make sure their base is heavy—Ragdolls are strong, and you don’t want the post to topple over on them. Looking for a bed? Our EMI cushion, with its 98 cm length when unfolded, provides plenty of space for your Ragdoll to stretch out and rest after a long play session.
Speaking of Play…Ragdolls absolutely love a good game. Wand toys, strings, balls, and Kung Fu kickers stuffed to the brim with catnip and valerian—that’s their jam. Despite their relaxed vibe, these cats love to hunt and get a kick out of play that mimics the natural hunting cycle. Use that to your advantage, fabCat! Grab a wand toy and engage your kitty in following, pouncing, and chasing their pretend prey. Let them celebrate their victory, too—Ragdolls love to carry their “catch” in their mouth, proudly showing off to everyone. And when it’s time for zoomies—those frantic, aimless sprints around the house—let them run wild. It’s guaranteed to make your cat very happy.
